Glicksman
I have spent most of my life happily ensconced in the world of 3-D crafts: baking, clay modeling, macrame, sea shell building and crocheting have all been hobbies at one time or another. About twelve years back, I decided to venture out of my comfort zone and into the world of 2-D art by enrolling in a drawing class. It took about twenty minutes before frustration kicked in.
Clearly, ‘flat’ art was not my thing. I went home and, recalling the scene the instructor had asked the students to draw, I cut and ripped paper to create a small collage of the scene instead. This was much more fun for me and the ancestral Roomination was born!
My Story
As I experimented with my new art form, I found that I was repeatedly drawn to creating rooms. I usually start by thinking of a play on words that puts a fun twist on a familiar form or space and then I sketch out a preliminary idea. From there, I use various materials (acrylic paint, paper, beads, buttons, yarn, modeling clay, etc.) to build the scene. With each new Roomination, I try to use different methods and materials and, with each one, I learn more.
